Meet Sheri
Parent • Teacher • Leader
My name is Sheri Leo and I’m running for Melrose School Committee. I’m excited to introduce myself to the community: I’m a parent and a homeowner, a former teacher and current nonprofit professional, a school volunteer and community board member. I have more than 20 years of experience as a talent leader, and I’ve dedicated my professional life to improving public education.
I’ve lived in Melrose for 14 years and long been active in the community. Over the years, I have served as a soccer coach, volunteer, school site council member, and board member of The Bridge and Follow Your Art. I live in a multi-generational household with my parents, husband, and children (7th and 9th graders in Melrose Public Schools).
I began my career as a public school teacher in Washington, D.C., served in the office of Strategy and Planning at Chicago Public Schools, and later advised districts and states on education policy. I’m now the vice president of talent, learning, and culture at a national nonprofit that helps educators make change in their communities. I hold a Bachelor of Arts from Brown University, a Master of Arts in Teaching from American University, and a Master of Public Policy from the University of Chicago.
I felt called to run for school committee because I believe my experiences, personal and professional, have prepared me to make a meaningful contribution at a critical time for our public schools. I believe all students deserve a top-notch education. My hands-on experience, hard-earned expertise, and track record of consensus-driven, meaningful change can help move our schools forward. If elected, I pledge to work every day for these key priorities: invest in our schools, build a culture of trust, and support every student.
Together, we can work towards a stronger Melrose Public Schools.
